17th of June is site visit time for the final year BID students from Vismayam college and led by Architect Jamsheer (the group’s trainer) and Roshini (faculty) arrive at Amshakacheri, that is situated a few kilometers off Edapal. The site is a domestic house under construction valued at approximately INR 12 crores spread over 8000 square feet of land. The spacious house is built along the model of a traditional Kerala manor with tile roofing and elaborate wood work done in teak. The concept of design is working from part to whole. One tends to observe an emphasis on blending the house interiors with nature and at least one whole tree is seen planted inside the house. There is a splendid view of the paddy field outside from the dining hall area. One of the bed rooms extends entirely to a balcony without separation or walls and offers a panoramic view outside. Only a motorized imported screen separate the bedroom and balcony. The entire floor is made of moisture resistant wooden material that serves to add to the overall ambience of the place. An amphitheater in front of the property is in its half built stage.
Apart from local builders, work on the property is also being completed by Malaysian and Korean contractors. Needless to say our design students take important notes on an extravagant household project and also enjoy the fruitful trip. View images of the trip.
