Looking back from the end of a long academic term in College, the best moments recalled were those spent with friends and team mates during shared activities. On the morning of 10th January this year, the batch of final year BMMC students of Vismayam College of Art & Media found themselves all charged up as they set out to begin their 3 day study tour of Wynad and Coorg. They were being led by Mr. P Mustafa, ex staff photographer of Malayalamanorama, and Mr. Faris Kandoth (Sr. Media Faculty) to administer photography classes along the way.
The splendor of Kuruwa Dweep (island):

The first stopover for the group was the scenic Kuruwa Island, surrounded by stunning greenery of the forest prompting the media team to deploy their cameras right away. Later, the team members lost no time in forming small groups and rafting their way across streams, climbing rickety bridges and wading through shallow water. The exhilarating mood for the trip was switched on.

Late in the afternoon, the party began the next leg of the Wynad journey from Muneeswaram Mudi, an expansive hilly terrain that seemed to invite one to go trekking. The team slowly trudged up the hill side on foot, huffing and puffing a little until they arrived on top and just in time to witness a magnificent and awe inspiring sunset. A hectic photography session followed with Mr. P Mustafa, former staff photographer of Malayalamanorama, briefing the media students with great tips on the camera. After a long day the media group slowly settled around a campfire lit up in the open spaces.

The Golden Tibetan Temple – Coorg

Rested and ready the next morning, the happy team members are on the bus headed towards Coorg, in Karnataka, some 80 kilometers away. By choice the first point of visit was the Tibetan Golden Temple at Bylakuppe, an old Tibetan settlement from the 1960s. One immediately sensed the stillness of the place that, is a traditional quality of the Monastery culture. The Temple itself was of awesome workmanship and the students spent unique moments posing for photographs in front of the edifice.

The young media crowd, excited by their new environment hop on the hired jeeps that took the dusty track, covering 40 kilometers up the closest heights. The afternoon view of the dense green forest in the valley below was a treat for the senses. Needless to say, more delightful photography tips followed from Mr. P Mustafa, ultimately serving to fulfill the core purpose of this study trip.

Our young media experts arrived at the next exotic spot on their adventurous itinerary, the Nisargadhama Bamboo Forest in Kodag district of Karnataka. The majestic teak trees and bamboo groves there provided lots of shaded areas to walk through while being able to take pictures of deer and other fauna moving in the foliage. It was thrilling for the individual team members and groups to have their photographs taken from atop tree houses and the hanging rope bridge.
The tour winds up
A grand DJ night capped the adventure, revelry and excitement of the entire tour. The study classes on photography by Mr. P Mustafa and Mr. Faris Kondoth made the trip more memorable and very fruitful too. The images posted here should provide a vivid and colorful account of the journey.
